While many of Prague’s top bars are geared towards tourists, Pivovarsky Dum is one place where you can get a true feel for Czech culture without going too far off of the main streets. Just a short distance from both Charles Square and Wenceslas Square, Pivovarsky Dum is easy to find and has great beer and food.
Starting with the beer, Pivovarsky Dum has three main choices which include the Classic Lager, light beer, and dark beer. Those who want to get a true taste of Czech beer should go with the Classic Lager since it is similar to what you’ll find in local bars. Of course Pivovarsky Dum also serves up some very interesting choices you might want to try such as the Champagne Ale, Coffee Lager, and Wheat Beer.
If you’re visiting with friends then it’s a very good idea to try the Zirafa (Giraffe) which is a giant, four liter cylinder of beer filled with whatever you like. The Zirafa is very convenient to use too since there’s a tap at the bottom where you can pour the beer into a cup.
Going beyond the drinking, Pivovarsky Dum also has an excellent restaurant people can eat at too. There is everything from delicious and affordable appetizers such as the Goulash Soup and Old Bohemian Garlic Soup to main dishes such as Roast Pork with Sauerkraut and Weiner Schnitzel with Potatoes. People can expect to spend around 25,-kc for an appetizer while main course dinners will cost around 185,-kc.
The only thing that is really lacking at Pivovarsky Dum is that the atmosphere isn’t as impressive as other Prague bars. That’s because the bar is located inside of an office building which takes away from the character. However, once inside you’ll feel like you’re in a true Czech bar since a lot of locals hang out here and the interior is very homey as well.
Pivovarsky Dum is really a great mixture of a traditional Czech bar and a place where tourists can feel comfortable visiting. The food and beer are both very authentic and people are sure to enjoy their selves at Pivovarsky Dum.
