Good Fast and Cheap
People often speak of the idea that there are generally three things you want when trying to make something happen: you want it to be good, fast and cheap. However, they also say that the truth is that you can only have two of these things exist at once and that you cannot have the third. For instance, if you are remodeling your kitchen, it can be good and fast, but it won’t be cheap. Or, it can be fast and cheap, but it won’t be good. Or, it can even be good and cheap, but it won’t be fast. You can imagine how you could apply this theory to nearly anything.

The one area where it can be argued that one can have all three desirables at once is the world of fast food. Now, we do have to define good here as meaning tasty. We all know there are healthier things you can eat and that no one would claim that fast food was good for you, but there are enough people who not only frequent the establishments because they are convenient and affordable, they flock to them because they crave their offerings.
Prague is vital because it is a living, breathing, changing city. One notable difference from its past landscape is the fact that western chains have been opening their doors all over Prague. There are 7 McDonald’s, 5 KFC’s and Subway Sandwich, which has locations in 71 countries, now has its very first shop in Prague 1 – Mala Strana. The phenomenon that is Starbucks started with its first coffee shop, bringing the American addiction to Prague’s Old Town Square, and then 5 more subsequently sprouted up around the city.
What does this mean for the city? This is just the beginning. As those first shops served their good, fast and cheap meals, they were merely paving the way for more of their branches and also for other vendors. These business franchises contribute to the health of an economy. Prague is an old city and has always had excellent dining options. It’s nice to see the options diversifying in terms of cuisine and, now, price range. Good, fast and cheap may rarely coexist, but when it does come together, it’s easy to enjoy. |
